Challenge
Alternative to rubber-based infill banned by the EU.
Solution
The biodegradable AGC material AGC Infill/OD100.
Rubber infill on artificial grass pitches has been shown to be a significant source of pollution in the environment due to harmful microplastics. The EU has therefore, as part of the REACH regulation, banned rubber granules on artificial grass from 2031.

The City of Gothenburg public football pitches
The City of Gothenburg carries out extensive environmental work, including by limiting microplastics from the city's artificial grass pitches. The EU has banned the sale of all rubber-based infill material for sports pitches from October 2031 - with phasing out as early as 2023.When the Sports and Association Administration in the City of Gothenburg installs new artificial turf pitches or renovates existing ones, the choice of infill material is crucial. For the installation of the Kortedalavallen artificial turf in 2021, the choice fell on AGC/OD100, and the results have been very positive - with high marks from both players and administration.
The material's higher density makes it particularly well adapted to the Nordic climate, as it neither floats nor blows away. It is also resistant to UV radiation, which contributes to a long life. Compared to fossil-based car tire infill, our material is a more durable alternative that does not absorb water, improving year-round usability.
