Challenge
Develop straws from renewable materials that can be produced using the same process and manufacturing tools as conventional plastics, while being functional, recyclable and having a low CO2 footprint.
Result
An equivalent straw made from fossil plastics has an 88% higher CO2 footprint compared to using PE106.
PE106 is approved for contact with foodstuffs and stands out with mechanical properties such as very high impact resistance, stiffness and is easy to dye.
From 2022, single-use plastic items are banned in the EU, and new laws and regulations are being introduced continuously with the aim of reducing litter in seas, lakes and other marine areas, as well as to reduce CO2 emissions and harmful microplastics in the environment.
